Plain Local business manager Tom Brabson retires, directors mixed up

TWP UNI. – The retirement of Plain Local Schools’ longtime business manager is prompting a series of administrative changes for the upcoming school year.

Tom Brabson plans to retire in October after 16 years as commercial director of Plain Local, a position which also included the duties of sporting director for a few years.

Brabson, who spent 45 years in education, including administrative positions in the Alliance and Canton City school districts, also worked at Plain from 1997 to 2000 as an athletic director.

“After 45 years teaching, I can say with confidence that Plain Local Schools is the best district I have worked for,” Brabson said in a district statement. “We provide students with a comprehensive education and have an incredibly dedicated and caring staff. Brent May is an outstanding leader and superintendent, and I’m proud to have completed my career here.”

As a business leader, Brabson helped upgrade Plain Local’s security and facilities. He also helped lead the Golden Eagle Athletic Association, which raised funds for various district improvements, including the construction and development of Bob Commings Field.

GlenOak High School principal Mike Babics will succeed Brabson as business manager beginning in October.
