Dickinson Public Schools Hires New Business Manager – The Dickinson Press

The Dickinson Public School Board voted unanimously to hire Stephanie Hunter as the new business manager for the Dickinson Public School District at a special board meeting Oct. 29.

Hunter replaces Kent Anderson, who recently accepted a position at Dickinson State University. She will meet him later this week.

Hunter is originally from Colorado and graduated from Colorado Technical University with a degree in business administration with a concentration in finance.

She has a background in finance and auditing. Prior to accepting this position, she worked as an audit consultant for FEMA.

Hunter has experience in the private, not-for-profit and public sectors.

“I understand the context in terms of how the (private) sector works with the (public) sector, since I’ve been on both ends,” she said. “For FEMA, I was a consultant but we were doing the CARES Act grants, so I was doing an audit for the repayment of all of this grant to the Texas public schools and one of their local municipalities statewide. , so I understand how strict the budgets are for these districts.Everything down to the pencil matters, especially right now.

Hunter said many school districts are currently struggling financially, including due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“All school districts are kind of going through the same thing right now. The pandemic has made it pretty difficult for everyone,” she said.

She has some ideas for additional potential revenue streams.

“I come up with new ideas, I think, that can be used to their advantage,” Hunter said. “I’ve written grants and done all the grant reporting for a few nonprofits. I think that’s where every school district is at right now, looking at what else than what we traditionally used because it’s time to get creative.”

She moved to Dickinson about three months ago with her husband to be with her family. They had been visiting Dickinson periodically for 18 years.

“The community is awesome,” Hunter said. “Everyone I’ve met has been so nice and welcoming. Everyone’s so nice. The people are so helpful.”
