Business Manager – Regional Planning, Minerals and Waste

Cambridgeshire County Council’s Square and Economy Branch provides services in areas such as transport, new infrastructure, roads and the environment. It aims to manage and ensure the growth and development of sustainable communities, to meet the challenges of climate change and to improve the natural environment.

The County Planning, Minerals and Waste Department is seeking to recruit an experienced and enthusiastic professional who will oversee and provide leadership in county development management, monitoring and enforcement and minerals and waste policy . You will lead a well-established and successful team in the delivery of key transport, education and community infrastructure through the planning process across Cambridgeshire, ensuring that the impacts of major new developments and building projects infrastructure of national significance are fully mitigated and new communities are sustainable. .

This role is an excellent opportunity to lead three key areas of the planning workflow; policy planning, development management, enforcement and monitoring, while also influencing new Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs). The successful candidate should be able to manage and inspire all team members working across the planning workflow and lead complex planning requests, representing the Board on the Planning and call as necessary, alongside county and district council meetings and regional meetings. A solid training in town planning and land use planning will be essential, as well as good managerial skills to develop the whole team. While mineral and waste experience is desirable for the position, it should not deter candidates from applying, as transferable skills and planning knowledge are key criteria for the new job holder.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing professional and technical advice to fulfill the responsibilities of the Board and will provide professional advice to the leadership and planning committee. This will include leading mineral and waste planning policy support to Peterborough City Council through joint council planning arrangements. The ability to help with complex workloads and sign off decisions and reports will also be expected.

As an experienced town planner and planner, you will either be a Chartered Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute (MRTPI) or eligible for Chartered Membership, and be prepared to further develop your career in county planning.
