A new affordable salon opens in Garapan | Business Section

MOMMYLA Spa & Salon, which offers affordable beauty and hair care services, held a “soft opening” in Garapan on Saturday.

Located behind Lollipops Store, the new salon offers a spa, quality hair care, makeup and many other beauty services in a very relaxing atmosphere in an elegant building facing the lagoon of Saipan.

Father Chaui A. Borja blessed the salon by joining owner Marlyn Dougherty, general manager Debralyn Santos, hairstylist Sharmaine Casquero, friends and special guests at a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Miss Land Mariana Northern Crystal Fiona Rio also graced the event.

Santos said what will set them apart from other beauty salons on the island is their “best quality services provided in a friendly and relaxing location at very affordable prices”.

She said she, her mother and her sister had been planning to open their own spa and salon for a long time.

With further encouragement from Casquero, she said they finally decided to go.

“Our long-held dream has finally come true,” Santos said.

She also shared how they found Mommyla as the name of the beauty salon.

She said it was a combination of mom and “lola,” the Filipino word for grandma.

She added that her mother, Marlyn Dougherty, from the Philippines “is already a grandmother and is known as everyone’s mom, so we call her ‘Mommyla’.”

On behalf of his family, Santos thanked Casquero for sharing his vision; Hapi Canezares Gabriel for helping them organize the event; Malou Callejo Lambat for the last minute printing of the banner and invitations; Zaiyra Marjorie and Camille Samonte-Bocago of Moment Maker for multimedia coverage; and Lito and Malou Mendoza for the chairs.

Santos also expressed his gratitude to his “dad”, David Dougherty, for supporting and giving his mother “everything she wants”.
